What’s Involved?
The PowerUp Rural America Initiative is designed as a 3-year journey — one that builds momentum year after year. From local champions and business engagement to regional collaboration and national visibility, here’s what’s involved and how we’ll move forward, together.
Year One: Connection
We’ll work together to build your community’s digital foundation — starting with people. We’ll launch the Community Connector/Champion Program to identify and equip local leaders who will help uncover and map your region’s businesses, organizations, events, and gathering places. These Champions become the heartbeat of visibility and engagement.
As year one progresses, we’ll activate Business Blitzes and Business Boosts — energizing campaigns that help local businesses plug in and get noticed. Using simple tools and a strategic approach, we’ll grow your digital presence and expand your reach — making your region easier to find, support, and believe in.
Year Two: Collaboration
We shift from connection to collective action. Your Community Champions will continue growing through bi-weekly training, while a regional network of leaders develop through monthly peer learning sessions.
This year is about working smarter — forming deeper partnerships with neighboring communities, sharing data, aligning messaging, and supporting one another across boundaries. Regionalism comes to life, and together, we’ll begin to build something bigger than any one community.
Year Three: Promotion
With momentum in motion, Year three brings your region into the national spotlight. We’ll launch a national campaign showcasing the pilot REMCs as leading examples of rural innovation and collaboration. Your region’s story, progress, and people will be lifted up for others to see — and join.
More than just visibility, this year focuses on broad platform adoption and long-term sustainability — ensuring your community has the tools, talent, and momentum to keep growing well beyond the pilot. Your REMC will help lead the rural revitalization others are waiting to follow.
